Coffee latte, or “coffee with milk”, is espresso that’s blended with a generous portion of milk. While you’re not likely to find this mild, creamy coffee beverage in Italy, it’s all the rage in the United States – especially when lavished with sweet flavored syrups. Delicious when served hot or iced, coffee latte is a breeze to prepare. If you’re new to coffee making, here are a few simple coffee latte recipes to get you started:
Frappuccino
½ cup fresh espresso
¼ cup sugar
1 TB dry pectin
2 ½ cups 2% milk
Combine ingredients in a covered container and shake until the sugar is dissolved; chill and serve cold. (For a “Mocha Frappuccino,” add a pinch of cocoa powder.)
Caramel Macchiato
6 oz steamed milk
½ cup espresso
1 oz vanilla syrup
1 oz caramel sauce
Add vanilla syrup and steamed milk to a mug and top with milk foam. Pour espresso through the foam and drizzle with caramel sauce.
Caramel Apple Coffee Latte
½ cup fresh espresso
1 oz caramel syrup
1 oz apple syrup
6 oz steamed milk
Whipped cream
Cinnamon
Steam milk and syrups, and top with whipped cream. Pour espresso through whipped cream to create a layered look. Sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!
Don’t have an espresso machine or milk steamer? No problem. You can still enjoy all of these recipes, even if you don’t own the gadgetry.
To Steam Milk: Pour ½ milk into a 16 oz jar and shake vigorously for 45-60 seconds. Remove lid and microwave on high for 30-45 seconds.
To Make Espresso in Drip Coffee Maker: Use ⅓ cup ground coffee and 1 cup water; brew once, then run through the machine again using the same grounds. This recipe yields about ½ cup fresh espresso.
After you’ve mastered a few basic coffee latte recipes, experiment with your favorite sauces and syrups to create your own coffee masterpiece. Making coffee latte at home is a deliciously savvy way to save money without skimping on the indulgence.
